FAQ
Workers’ Compensation FAQs
How does workers’ compensation work?
Workers’ compensation is insurance that California employers are required to carry. It covers medical care and lost wages for employees who are injured or become ill because of their job. When an employee is hurt at work, they report the injury to their employer, get treated by an approved provider, and the employer’s insurance covers the cost.
At Sand Canyon Urgent Care, we handle the medical side, including evaluation, treatment, work status, and state-required reporting, so employees can focus on recovering and returning to work safely.
Do you accept walk-in workplace injuries?
Yes. Walk-ins are always welcome, and wait times are typically under 30 minutes. If your employer gave you an authorization form, please bring it with you.
Who pays for workers’ comp care?
In California, medical care for a work-related injury is covered by the employer’s workers’ compensation insurance, so employees don’t pay out of pocket for approved treatment.
Does my company need an employer account?
An account keeps your company profile, authorized services, and billing on file, so your employees can come straight in and you can track visits in the Employer Portal. Click here to start your profile now.
Can you provide modified-duty recommendations?
Yes. After each visit, we provide a work status with specific restrictions when needed, so employees can often keep working safely while they recover.
How do employers receive work-status reports?
Work status is shared with employers after every visit through the Employer Portal. Our team is also available by phone for questions about a case.
What is a first aid claim?
A first aid claim covers an injury that needs only minor treatment, like a small cut or burn. For these simple cases, we can bill your company directly instead of opening a full workers’ comp claim.
Who needs workers’ comp insurance in California?
California requires every employer with one or more employees to carry workers’ compensation insurance, even part-time or family employees.
Can my employer see my medical records?
HIPAA allows us to share information about the work injury with your employer and the claims administrator as needed for the claim. Medical history unrelated to the injury stays private.
How do I request workers’ comp records?
Call our office at (949) 417-0272 and our team will walk you through the request process.
What if the injury is an emergency?
Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room for severe injuries, like heavy bleeding, head injuries, or chest pain. We can take over follow-up care once the employee is stable.
